E Tū Whānau Rangatahi Film Awards 2019

Ngā Manu Kōrero is regarded as the most significant event on the Māori education calendar for nurturing the oratory skills and providing the stage for young people to express their views and to lay down their challenges to an admiring and critical audience of peers, parents, whānau and judges. The competitions are in four divisions: the Pei Te Hurinui Jones Contest, Korimako Contest, Te Rāwhiti Ihaka Contest and Sir Turi Carroll Contest. Competitions are held at three levels – school, regional and national. Te Reo Māori Section Mā ngā tauira e tīpako tētahi kaupapa kōrero e tohu: 1. Reo kōpiri, whakapuakina! Reo korahi, whāngaihia! 2. Ngā pūrākau Māori, he kura huna kei roto. 3. Tamaiti whāngai – He koha nā te kōpū hei taonga mō te ngākau. 4. Āke, ake, ake! Toitū te Tiriti! 5. He mamae poto, he oranga roa. 6. (Ma te tauira tonu e whakatau i tāna ake kaupapa kōrero) The contest is in two parts: • a prepared speech in Māori of up to 12 minutes in length to allow time for inclusion of Ngā Mihi. • plus an impromptu speech in Māori of up to three minutes in length, with a five minute period of preparation time. The Pei Te Hurinui Jones Trophy is awarded to the contestant who gains the highest aggregate score for both the prepared and the impromptu speech English Section Students choose a topic from the following list: 1. Our stories transcend myth and legend. 2. Hapū rights are sovereign rights. 3. My whānau would make the best reality TV. 4. My 100-day plan for Aotearoa. 5. Stress less, live more: Rangatahi tips. 6. (Students may determine their own topic). The contest is in two parts: • a prepared speech in English of up to eight minutes in length. • an impromptu speech in English of up to three minutes in length, with a five-minute period of preparation time. The Korimako Trophy is awarded to the contestant who gains the highest aggregate score for both the prepared and the impromptu speech.

We recently went to attened the Māoriland Film Festival last week, where the rangatahi were awarded for their performances & works in their films.
